Enveritas is a non-profit sustainability assurance organisation for coffee and cocoa, with certification delivered through its independent arm, Enveritas Certification LLC. Its model differs from classic certification schemes: rather than certifying individual farms for the farmer's own marketing benefit, it typically verifies supply on behalf of buying companies, combining farm-level assessment with geospatial and risk-based methods to cover smallholders who are structurally excluded from conventional certification by cost. The Enveritas Certification Standards (Version 25–26) define the criteria. For claims purposes this distinction matters: Enveritas verification underpins a buyer's responsible-sourcing claim about its supply base; it is not an on-product consumer label and does not confer a farm-level marketing certificate in the Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance sense. Its assessments cover environmental, social and economic criteria adapted to smallholder reality, and it publishes its standards and methodology openly. The approach has been adopted by major coffee buyers seeking supply-chain-wide coverage rather than certificate counts. Verification supports a sourcing claim only within the verified scope and methodology; it does not by itself prove outcomes or validate wording beyond that scope.
