Overview

How it is used

Social compliance schemes (amfori BSCI, Sedex/SMETA, SA8000) audit supplier working conditions; buyers set codes of conduct; CSRD ESRS S1 and S2 require disclosure of own-workforce and value-chain working conditions; investors assess labour practices.

Why it matters

Working conditions determine whether employment delivers dignity and security; they are the most direct measure of the social dimension of business conduct.
