Definition

Tågskryt — literally "train bragging" — is a Swedish term, emerging around 2018 alongside flygskam (flight shame), for the pride people take in choosing low-carbon rail travel over flying, and their willingness to say so. Part of a cluster of Swedish travel-climate vocabulary (including smygflyga, flying in secret), it describes and creates a shifting social norm in which rail is the high-status choice for journeys where it competes.
