Solar Farm
Definition
A solar farm is a utility-scale ground-mounted photovoltaic installation, typically from a few megawatts to multi-gigawatt parks, delivering power directly to the grid under long-term contracts or merchant operation. Solar farms are the cheapest form of new electricity in many markets; their sustainability questions centre on land take (competition with agriculture and habitat), landscape impact, end-of-life panel management and, increasingly, design for co-benefits.

Overview
How it is used
The concept structures energy planning and permitting, land-use policy, corporate PPAs and the integration of solar into rural economies.
Why it matters
Solar farms are where the energy transition physically meets the landscape; how they are sited and managed determines whether clean power is also good land use.
