Definition

Reproductive rights are internationally recognised human rights covering the freedom to decide the number, spacing and timing of children, and the right to the information, education and means — including contraception, maternal healthcare and safe delivery — to make those decisions in dignity. Codified through the 1994 Cairo International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action, they rest on the right to health and to non-discrimination.
