REDD Readiness
Definition
REDD readiness is the preparatory phase of REDD+ implementation, in which countries develop national strategies, reference emission levels, forest monitoring systems, safeguard information systems and benefit-sharing arrangements needed to qualify for results-based payments. The World Bank's Forest Carbon Partnership Facility Readiness Fund has been the principal support mechanism, alongside UN-REDD technical assistance.

Overview
How it is used
The term is used in climate finance, forest policy and evaluation of REDD+ programmes; "readiness" documents (R-PPs, readiness packages) form the audit trail of a country's preparation.
Why it matters
Readiness is where REDD+ succeeded or failed as governance reform; its lessons define what results-based forest finance realistically requires.
