Disability inclusion
Definition
Disability inclusion is the meaningful participation and integration of people with disabilities in all aspects of society, ensuring equal access to opportunities, resources and services by eliminating physical, attitudinal and systemic barriers. Grounded in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, it goes beyond physical accessibility to encompass reasonable accommodation, inclusive culture and full participation in workplaces, education and communities.

Overview
What it means
Inclusion as a right and a design principle — not charity — spanning the built environment, employment and digital access.
How it is used
Employers apply it through accommodations and inclusive hiring; it appears in DEI frameworks, ESG social metrics, accessibility standards and development programming.
Why it matters
People with disabilities are among the groups most exposed to poverty and exclusion; disability inclusion is integral to "leave no one behind" and to credible social sustainability.
