Climate-proofing
Definition
Climate-proofing is the structured screening and analysis of policies, projects and investments to verify that they will remain viable under projected climate change. The European Commission's 2021 technical guidance defines a two-pillar process — mitigation consistency and adaptation/resilience — applied through screening and, where needed, detailed analysis for 2021–2027 programming.

What it means
It turns climate scenarios into practical go/no-go checks for infrastructure financed with public money.
How it is used
Required for major projects under EU instruments such as InvestEU, the Connecting Europe Facility, the European Regional Development Fund and the Just Transition Fund.
Why it matters
It prevents lock-in of assets that would fail or become uneconomic under future climate conditions.
