In brief
What this profile covers
WRAP — Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production — is a non-profit factory-level certification for the apparel, footwear and sewn-products sector. It certifies individual production facilities against its 12 Principles, covering legal compliance, forced and child labour, harassment and discrimination, compensation, hours, health and safety, freedom of association, environment, customs compliance and security. Certification follows a third-party audit cycle — with accredited monitoring firms and semi-announced audits — and is graded (Platinum, Gold, Silver) by compliance history. WRAP is a facility certificate, widely requested by brands as a sourcing precondition, rather than a consumer-facing label or a brand-level endorsement. Its claims discipline follows from that: a WRAP certificate speaks to the audited facility's compliance at audit time; it does not certify the brand, the product's materials, or conditions between audits. WRAP's programme grew out of the American Apparel & Footwear Association's response to sweatshop exposés, and it remains a standard precondition in US brand sourcing. Certificates are publicly verifiable by number, which lets a claim about a supplier be checked without access to the audit report itself. The certification does not automatically apply to every product, service or claim made by the certified organisation.
