UL 2799, the UL Solutions Zero Waste to Landfill environmental claim validation (ECVP 2799, Edition 4.0), verifies a facility's waste-diversion performance. Validation is tiered by diversion rate — including Platinum at 100% diversion, and lower tiers with defined thresholds — and requires documented waste-stream data, downstream vendor verification and ongoing monitoring; "zero waste to landfill" under this standard can include energy-from-waste within defined limits, a definitional point that matters when comparing claims across companies. Validation is facility- or operation-specific and time-bound, performed by UL Solutions as the validating body. Because "zero waste" is otherwise an unregulated phrase, the standard's defined diversion rates and audit trail are what make the claim testable. Validation substantiates the diversion rate of the validated facility for the validation period only. The standard defines its terms tightly: diversion methods, measurement boundaries and the treatment of hazardous and residual waste are specified, and validated claims must state the achieved rate and method mix. Facilities revalidate periodically, so a current validation year is part of a credible claim. The certification does not automatically apply to every product, service or claim made by the certified organisation.
