The Nature Positive Initiative is a partnership — including WBCSD, IUCN, TNFD, WEF and others — formed to give "nature positive" a shared, measurable meaning before the term outruns its definitions. It promotes a global goal (halting and reversing nature loss by 2030 against a 2020 baseline) and is converging on State of Nature metrics so that corporate and national claims can be measured consistently; its measurement-framework work is in 2026 consultation. Its role is definitional and directional: NPI provides the common goal and metric architecture; it does not certify, audit or endorse individual claims. The partnership's earlier work produced the Nature Positive definition adopted across business coalitions, and its current consultation on State of Nature metrics is intended to let very different actors measure against a common direction of travel. The initiative deliberately positions itself as a convenor: accountability for delivery stays with the companies and governments making the claims. Alignment with these principles is a stated position, not a certification; it does not by itself demonstrate compliance or outcomes.
