The Nestlé Cocoa Plan is Nestlé's proprietary cocoa-sourcing programme, combining traceability systems, farmer premiums, child-labour monitoring and remediation (through its income-accelerator and CLMRS mechanisms), and agroforestry initiatives. Its claims appear in Nestlé product and corporate communications — including "sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan" statements on KitKat and other brands — backed by the company's own verification arrangements and mass-balance-style volume accounting for cocoa. As a company-run programme, its criteria, coverage figures and assurance are self-defined; Rainforest Alliance certification of part of its volumes is separately declared. The programme reports on farmer numbers, tonnage and the share of cocoa that is traceable and responsibly sourced, and it has progressively shifted toward physical-traceability models in some supply chains. Nestlé's public commitments on child labour and deforestation are delivered substantially through this programme, which is why its verification arrangements receive outside scrutiny. Alignment with these principles is a stated position, not a certification; it does not by itself demonstrate compliance or outcomes.
